On Being a Dentist

Making a difference in people’s lives is what this profession is all about. A bonus is having the ability to establish lasting relationships with so many great people. As a dentist, I strive to make a difference in patients’ lives by earning their trust, educating, and helping each feel at ease.

Dentists improve our patients’ health everyday we are on the job, and that is something to smile about!

Background and Education

Growing up in Ephrata, I chose to the dental profession from a desire to work with people while using my artistic background to work with my hands. Being also drawn to the sciences, dentistry checked a lot of boxes for my interests and aptitudes.

I attended East Stroudsburg University where I received a Bachelor of Science in Biology. This was followed by dental school. My Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS) was awarded by the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, formerly known as the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery.

During dental school I was selected as a team member of Operation Smile to educate and volunteer our services to the dental students and good people of Hanoi, Vietnam.  This was the first dental mission ever for Operation Smile.

Following dental school, I promptly enlisted with the U.S. Public Health Service as a commissioned officer, and was stationed at the Blackfeet Indian Hospital in Browning, Montana.

In Practice

I have been honored to care for the oral health of my hometown for over 25 years. It is rewarding to help people with complex dental issues and ease them through the process with excellent results. At the same time, I find fulfillment in building professional relationships through trust and straight-forward, honest communication.

I love getting to know our patients personally and sharing in their lives throughout the years.

Our team here at Springer Family Dentistry has been part of the practice for many years and is an extension of our family. It is easy to rely on them to deliver exceptional clinical care and attentive, accommodating service to our patients.

We have dedicated our practice to patient satisfaction and delivering an unparalleled level of care. Striving for excellence every day, we listen to our patients, educate them about dental treatment options, and put each in control of their oral health.

Professional Affiliations and Continuing Education

I am a member of the:

  • American Dental Association
  • Pennsylvania Dental Association
  • Lancaster County Dental Society
  • AAOI
  • SPEAR Academy

Dentistry has reached the digital age and its evolution is moving at rocket speed. Active and ongoing continuing education ensures we are following the latest advances and protocols dental technology has to offer.

Throughout the year I participate in many continuing education opportunities through these professional organizations. I strive to stay current on the latest research, innovations, and emerging techniques and trends.

In addition to developments in general dentistry, I have sought advanced training and courses in more specialized topics. Among these additional trainings are airway management and orthodontic development in children and young adults, and orthodontic aligners. I also participate in dental implantology and 3D printing study groups and take courses in TMJ therapy techniques.

Personal Life

Raised in Ephrata, I have lived in Lititz for over 23 years and am pleased to have raised my family here. My wife Chris and I have two adult sons, Aaron and Christian, along with a black lab named Tuco. We all love be outdoors, enjoying hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing, and surfing the NJ coast. We are skiing fanatics, too, and love to get out west whenever possible.

Family is my greatest love, though I also prioritize staying active and living a healthy lifestyle. I am an omnivorous reader, too, and learn as much as I can in my spare time.
